Have you ever been told you can't because you're a girl?

Tell us your story...

Chloe Goes Her Own Way

They told me I couldn’t play Basketball with my friends because they were boys and they were tougher than me. I didn’t think it was fair so I played with them no matter what they said.  The “they” I am referring to are my friends. So instead of paying attention to what my friends thought, I decided to go my own way.   It worked and now I still play.

Morgan Does “Men’s Work”

Howdy, I’m a 13 year old girl who loves cows and horses. A lot of my friends and most of the guys I know don’t think that I’ll be able to go to work with my dad. He works at a Heifer Development Yard just outside of town, during the summer I go there and work with him. We heat check and I help in the AI (Artificial Insemination)/Processing Barn. I help separate the cattle. A lot of the people there thank me because I help them get their work done faster. It’s a lot of fun, I also get really good shots with my camera there too. And they said a girl couldn’t do a man’s work!

Courtney Proves Girls Are Just as Tough as Boys

Hey peeps. My name is Courtney and I’m 12 years old. I’m in middle school now so most of the girls are frilly and carry pocketbooks. (GROSS!!!) So me and this group of like 3 girls all decided to steal the football from the eighth grade boys. So there like okay fine. So were playing and I get the ball and a kid comes in to tackle me and his buddies are all like “Hey dude stop! You can’t tackle her shes a girl!” I was real mad but I didn’t lets them see. So I threw a long shot to my friend Angie. When the boys got the ball back, I ran up and tackled a kid who was on the Football TEAM!!!!! Ever since I tackled him, they’ve been tackling us with no problem. Girls are just as tough as boys!!!

Jamie Teams Up With Other Girl Gamers for Support

Everyone says girls can’t play video games. Well, I am in one of the biggest girl gaming clans out there.  We are called PMS Clan and we all support each other in the games we play.  Girls are always discouraged, made fun of, trashed talked, and just treated really badly during game play.  This clan makes it a more friendly environment for us to play together.  We have a boy clan, too, called H20 who are boys who support us. It’s really nice and if anyone here plays games.  You should join. ^-^

Alyssa Can Run The Distance

Hi I’m 12 and I run track. I am very slow but I run a very good distance and for the past two years I have been told you’re too slow and too short to run.

Now I can run the mile in 5 min 34 sec.  I either come in 1st or 2nd and then when they found out a girl was running they said no girls can run distance but I proved that.  So ha I can run distance.  I run the
mile 800 and 400.

Romana Outruns the Boys

My class is always saying I can’t beat them at races because I’m a girl and that boys are always faster than girls. One day when they where having a race around the playground (boys only) I put my hood up and started to run. In the end I was the one who crossed the finish line first. When I took down my hood all the boys mouths fell and no longer do they think that girls can’t do something because they’re girls.

Nancy Was Told Playing Football Isn’t Ladylike

I’m 16, and my parents don’t like me playing football because they say it’s not ladylike, so I’m stuck playing catch with a football, which isn’t the same…. I would be more into sports if it wasn’t because of that. I also like to go to shooting ranges with my dad because I enjoy handling guns, I even have a bullet on a chain around my neck….

Amy is a Firefighter

Hey, my name is Amy, I live in western Kentucky. Just stoppin’ in to say a lil about my story. I’m 15 years old and been on the fire department since December 12, 2006. I love what I do, but sometimes feel that I’m not respected as much because I’m a girl. Even when my little brother joined this past February, my dad, the training officer, started showing more interest in him. He seemed to be wanting to take him on more fire runs, and let me sleep if I was asleep, or if he seen me comin’ down the road or gettin’ off the bus, he would just leave me to ride slowly with no lights or sirens with my mom. And I was far more experienced than my brother, almost 2 or 3 years more.

Nicole’s Coach Says “Girls Can’t Do Collision Sports”

I’m a 7th grade girl who wanted to wrestle for my middle school and was encouraged by all my peer BOYS and girls alike plus my teachers. I went to talk to the athletic directer about it and he simply said “we’d rather you don’t”. No answer or anything, it just so happens that not only have girls wrestled before but they’ve played football too. I went to talk to the coach about it and he said “girls can’t do collision sports”. He didn’t know that he was standing right in front of the pictures of past teams and I could see at LEAST 4 girls. What should I do (if I can do anything)? If you have anything that might help please post :)

No Bull - Kayla Can Ride

My name is kayla. I am a very passionate 15year-old cowgirl/bullrider. Yep you heard me. I’m a bullrider. I’ve been told by the guys I compete against that I can’t bullride because I’m a girl. I’ve even had the three time world champion pbr rider, Adriano Moraes, tell me that I can’t ride because I am a girl. The truth is you never know who can or can’t bullride, guys or girls, until you have seen them climb on a bull.
