When will a woman play in the Super Bowl?

Football is the number one most commented topic on this site and also (not surprisingly) the top selling design in the Girls Can’t WHAT? shop.

In the last few years, we’ve seen a steady rise in the number of girls playing football at the middle and high school levels. Many of them have been accepted as the outstanding athletes that they are, while others have had to fight to uphold their Title IX right to participate in the game they love.

With the demand for football designs so high (I get frequent requests for color changes and uniform colors), I decided to add one more design to the mix. The new design is a very simple image of a football with the sassy Girls Can’t WHAT? logo (see photo on the right).

As I was working on it yesterday, I started thinking about the upcoming Super Bowl game on Sunday and I can’t help but wonder if someday we will see women playing in the Super Bowl. Now I know I’m opening a HUGE can of worms by even suggesting that, but we’ve come a long way and the women’s football leagues today are not lacking in capable athletes up for the challenge. dfeinatly. i know this is gonna sound crazy but i wanna be a singer and in the nfl.this is the only site where i feel comfortable saying this if i HAVE to choose i’ll choose singing cuz i’ve loved it longer and a litle more. honestly football along with track, fencing and fighting are my favorite sports. i’m playing next year and i get the game a whole lot more than i did in september. i’m not sure if its possible but i’ll try and see what happens.also to harry b there is one girl who weighs about that ( not the prettiest but she’s tough)and others that don’t but are still really good. i think we’ll be fine as long as you get the right girls and not the wrong ones

I think it could be potentially this year becasue if they do not solve the lock out problems then they may go to the women’s leagues and pull players from there. one can only hope though :)

I’m gonna try to predict the future but im madly in love with football.Next year will be my first year playing for my school 7th grade team next year. so i predict i will be the first woman to play in the super bowl when i get to be about 25 years of age :)

I can’t predict the future so I’ll pass on the when.

But if this does indeed come to pass, what happens when these women get hit head-on by 300 pound NFL defensive linemen?

Or do you foresee rules changes to accommodate coed NFL football that prevent this?

  I’m probably not going to be much help in answering any questions about football. I don’t watch football and I barely know enough to differentiate between a touch down and a field goal (I’m kidding – I aced the football test in gym class so I know the rules, but I still have no interest in watching the sport).
  
  But here’s my two cents…I don’t think we need to alter any rules. You won’t find someone like me at 5′ 2″ and 135 pounds playing professional football, but the women who train…who do bodybuilding and weight training… and are bigger and stronger than pee-wee’s like me could get in there and competitively take on the men. And in some cases, my money would be on her instead of him. ;)
