What does society say you can’t do?

OK – so I usually steer clear of political and religious topics on here to avoid igniting flame wars, but this speech by Sarah Palin is extroardinary.  Not because it’s pro-life, not because she’s Sarah Palin, but because of what she says at about 2:40.

“We went through some things a year ago that now lets me understand a woman’s… a girl’s… temptation to try to make it all go away.  If she has been influenced by society to believe she’s not strong enough, or smart enough or equipped enough, or convenienced enough to make the choice to let the child live.”

Now, regardless of your views on pro-life, think about what she says about women being influenced by society to believe we are not strong enough, smart enough or equipped enough to handle the situation.

How many times do we make decisions – ANY decision – based on those beliefs?  Think about what we women could achieve if we disregarded what society says about us.  The world would be an entirely different place.

:-?:-? Women should seriously think about taking over the world. I mean that. But first, unlearning self hatred, misogynistic tendencies inherited from patriarchy is a must. Some serious overhaul, emotional and spiritual, is to be done (and in fact, I believe is going on right now).:x

  • I think almost every woman has or will make a decision based on those societal expectations (or degrading standards…you choose). It’s terribly sad that women are faced with these notions every day, but that’s why it’s WONDERFUL that there is a site like this that reminds women that they CAN do everything and anything they want to.
