The US Post Office Doesn’t Approve of Women Working

Women Working Sign

Each time I create new designs, they have to go through an approval process by my vendors.  In order to put designs on stamps, they have to be authorized by the US Post Office. In the five years I have been creating these designs, I have never received a rejection noice for any of my artwork.

Until today.

Apparently the US Post Office does not approve of my “Women Working” sign.  Here is their reasoning:

Design incorporates material the primary purpose of which is to advocate or protest any particular religious, social, political, legal or moral agenda of any person or entity.

Now what I want to know is…are they referring to the “Men Working” part or the fact that it is crossed out to say “women”?

What would happen if I left it as “Men Working”?  I think I might alter this design to see if that would pass.  Hmm… devious, aren’t I?

Does the US Post Office have no sense of humor?

  • Well….maybe we are all trying to be so “politically correct” all the time, that anything that might have the potential to be misinterpretted (ie. above suggestion) is simply not considered…..wait, that can’t be right, or they’d take Family Guy off the air….sorry , you got me!!

  • Hmm. Maybe they took the men “crossed out” as being “anti-” men working?? No idea… weird!!

I’ve set up a little test. I just submitted two new designs to the post office. One is just the plain sign with “men working” on it (not crossed out). The second is the same sign with the word “women” in place of “men”. I’ll reveal the results as soon as I hear back from the Post Office. ;)
