PMS is Not a Weakness

This is really getting tiring.  I personally think PMS has been a little overplayed in the past and rather than us using it as an “excuse,”  I’m reading more and more comments from and media quotes where men are using it as a slam on women.  They see it as some kind of weakness… as if we suddenly become incapable of being rational, normal human beings during our cycles.

Take G. Gordon Liddy’s recent attack on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayer:

“Let’s hope that the key conferences aren’t when she’s menstruating or something, or just before she’s going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then.”

For real Mr. Liddy? You don’t really have anything on her so you play up PMS as some sort of weakness? Lame.

That’s as bad as Ed Carpenter’s comment on “the right time of the month” for Danica Patrick to race.

Time to grow up boys.

Apparently, “tact” wasn’t on his agenda. /:)

  • However, I tend to agree that Liddy’s comments (and ANY male’s comments) regarding menstruation are crass and just plain out of line. Liddy could’ve found a more tactful way to disagree with her views.

  • Actually, it’s Sotomayor, and I’m guessing his comment was a sort of response to her comment stating this: “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

She also seems to think judges get to legislate from the bench, from the NY Times: This month, for example, a video surfaced of Judge Sotomayor asserting in 2005 that a “court of appeals is where policy is made.” She then immediately adds: “And I know — I know this is on tape, and I should never say that because we don’t make law. I know. O.K. I know. I’m not promoting it. I’m not advocating it. I’m — you know.”

I read through your new site and it looks cool!

  • What a horrible thing to say! Sonia should kick her behind for sure.

  • WOW, that comment is just… I don’t even know what to say. I’m literally speechless and enraged!

But, on a happier note, I started a new site today that you’ll probably enjoy. Check it out http://www.hopespringsinternal.com. :)
