I want to play football!!

I’ve always loved football, most of my guy friends are football players and every time there is a chance we all play in the park or something. Boys will be boys and they do tackle me and flirt but its all just fun. I am a very athletic and competitive girl and I’ve realized I want to play football!

I’m going into my junior year of high school I’m only 110 pounds and 5’2″ but I’m very fast and sturdy. I’ve talked to the schools coach and athletic director and they have both gone over the risks of playing, gave me tips and a paper that I have to have my mom sign saying its okay for the school to do a physical fitness test saying I am fit to play at a varsity level with the boys. My mom is very concerned that I will get hurt (but you can in any sport) and refuses to sign the paper which means I can’t try out in the fall. I need help.

  • I am in the same problem! My dad says yes and so do the coaches, and the whole school is rooting for me to play! The only thing is that my mom wont listen to me. I have never wanted anything this bad in my life, but she just says “You shouldn’t it is unladylike and you will be hurt”, Ive tried to get her even to just let me try out one practice and see if I make it through! (your mom might let you do that) but I only have this year and the next and then im out of high school and i need to play. so if anything works for you please tell me!!!!!!

Rose – sounds like your mom is the only hurdle in getting you into the game. And as a parent, I can understand her concerns. You never want to see your kids get hurt.

Try showing her some other stories or high school teams where girls play so she can se that it’s becoming more common and that it’s not as dangerous as it sounds. Also, look at some of the women’s leagues for ladies 18+. If your mom says no to playing football in school, you can still work towards getting into one of those leagues after you graduate. ;)
