Anyway / Martina McBride Video

I listen to music all day long and I can count on one hand the number of songs that really “get to me”. I’m not an overly emotional person, but the first time I heard Martina McBride’s song “Anyway” I admit I got a little choked up. I was driving to a friend’s place to work on an art project, when it started playing on the radio and I spent the first hour of our project time trying to find the song on iTunes.

The lyrics are nothing new. I recognized them as being part of a quote attributed to Mother Theresa, but hearing them set to music is something else. “Anyway” debuted at the CMA Awards this year and I have been scouring iTunes every day hoping to purchase the song for my collection, but as of today it is still unavailable. My only hope was to listen to country stations all day praying that it would be played in the rotation somewhere, until today when I found a clip of Martina’s incredible performance on YouTube. If I could figure out how to package the inspiration that pours out of this song, I’d bottle it and ship it to every girl on this planet for free. So until I find a way to do that, I’ll just share the YouTube clip…

Here is the version reportedly written on the wall of Mother Theresa’s bedroom. It is believed she adapted the verses from a composition originally written by Kent Keith.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

Umm how do you put a video here?:-?
    I don’t know how
    :(

  • Kristen Spikes —-Martina in no way plagiarized
the song “Anyway” yes she might have gotten the idea from that poem or that’s where the song sprouted from but she and two other song writers wrote this song. She should take credit she co-wrote an amazing song. Martina is not the type of person to plagiarize someone else’s work.

Tee – I just found another clip of the same video. It should work for you now. Thanks for letting me know. ;)

  • Hey. I just tried to watch the video and it says it’s not available anymore.

    Thanks.

Kim – I will keep my ear out. A lot of people stop by and watch this video so maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

  • Hi All,
It is from the CD “waking up laughing” that was released early April.
    Enjoy!

  • My sister gave me your website. I am looking for a reliable address/website to forward a song/story to Martina Mcbride. I am a nurse who has been given a song with experience about 8 yrs ago. The last part of the song was finished this week. It just came! I believe there is a message in what I have that we all need to hear. Can anyone help me please. Kim K.

I don’t think it is shameful. I think she was just setting poetry to music. Nothing wrong in that – musicians do it all the time. Martina’s not taking credit for anything. She’s just the messenger. ;)

“Anyway” is a beautiful song, but Martina Mcbride should not take credit for writing it. She plagiarized this song from Mother Teresa’s poem “Anyway”. Shameful!!!
