Alanah was Refused Membership in the PRCA

I am 20 years old. Ever since I was little I have been riding bulls and been told that “you can’t ride as well as the boys.” When I turned 18 I tried to get my membership permits with PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association), they told me no because I am a girl.

I started just going to the little rodeos around my home town and practicing as much as I can. Then I met one of the PBR Bull Riders and got talking to him about being told no all the time. He suggested that I try and get my PBR Permit because they don’t care if you are a boy or girl. So right now I am in the process of getting my PBR permit.

Wish me luck girls as I wish all of you Good luck in life!!!!

  • i dont understand why guys have a hard time with girls riding…… o yeah they just hate getting beat:)

  • I still have a head time getting my head around this. The prca has a women saddle bronc rider, I would have been talking to more people with in the prca….I need to get my hands on some rule books.
Good luck in the pbr just the same! You just do what you love

  • i enjoy watching j.b. mauney so much.i love watching the pbr too.one day i hope to meet him and i hope we become good friends

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks for serving our country Cindy, it’s very brave of you. My uncle was in the Marines or the Navy, I forget which. I have a great respect for people all over the world who are fighting for the U.S.A.

Your words will inspire all of us here on what we can do!

  • All my life I’ve been told girls can’t and it use to get me hot under the collar. I received flak for being the only girl on the high school football team (linebacker), I received flak when I joined the Marines, then went through the worst depression of my life when I got sent home on medical and everyone looked at me like ‘see, girls can’t keep up with the boys’ even though it was MEDICAL, beyond my control, and you know what? I could handle it, I made it through the first two legs of training, and out of the three, those are the hardest. Also, I discovered the woman were put through more and could endure more. Finally I asked myself why I even listened to the garbage of others who usually are so intimidated by woman and afraid of us showing them up and realized that real men encourage, don’t discourage (same goes for women) is the day I gained a whole new perspective on things. I know what I can do, I know what great things my gender is capable of, and all others can deal with it. So go after your dreams with all your heart and let nothing stop you.

  • Just wondering, but if you have been watching the PBR you’ll know that JB Mauney is supposed to Ride Tom Teague’s bucking bull Bones in OK City the 14: Wich one do you think will win? I’m going with JB Mauney because he’s been riding great latley and it’s “supposed” to be easer for a left-handed rider to ride Bones than it is is for a right handed rider. But it’s goingt o be a fight to the end. So who do you think will come out on top?

P.S. the post right above mine that says readt2ride thats me its was supposed to say “ready2ride(cheyenne)”

  • We ain’t gonna stick to pole bending, barrel raceing and all of the stuff that some people think women should do because they are “to fragile” to ride bulls. I’m not going to say anymore, because that is only one persons opinion, and I’m not goingto let it get to me like it will the more i read it. So good luck with your bullfighting, and wish all of the bullriding cowgirls luck to.

ok so im gonna go out on a limb here i honestly wish u the best of luck getting ur pbr permit. I myself have been fighting bulls professionally for 7 years now and honestly anytime I go to a rodeo and see a womans name on the draw for the bullrideing i automatically gear up for a wreck because nine times outta ten that is what happens. Just from experience ladies stay off the back of bulls and stick to can chaseing goat tying or pole bending woman are much to fragile to be riding bulls.
