2014 will be the first gender-equal Winter Games in Olympic history

Girls Can't WHAT? - Women's Ski JumpingYou read that right.  For the first time in the history of the Winter Olympics, men and women will have the same opportunities to compete in the same disciplines. Women’s ski jumping has been added to the events for the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia. Prior to this announcement, Ski Jumping and the Nordic combined events were for men only and women were told it was “too dangerous“.

Women’s Ski Jumping has been a growing sport over the last several years and thanks to Girls Can’t WHAT? fans and women around the world who signed the petition, female skiers are finally able to compete for Olympic Gold.

Women’s Ski Jumping USA president Deedee Corradini stated “We are elated and relieved. Sochi, Russia can proudly proclaim that it will be hosting the first gender-equal Winter Games in Olympic history.”

Mark this in the women’s history books as a day of victory!
