Mucho Thanks! November Sales Support Two More Women Entrepreneurs

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who purchased Girls Can’t WHAT? gear during the month of November. Twenty percent of all Girls Can’t WHAT? sales go to support women around the world who are pursuing their dreams.  I’ve done the math and this month we are able to support two more women who are working to establish their own businesses.

(For a complete list of all the women Girls Can’t WHAT? supports through Kiva, visit our online portfolio.)

438321Uon Mayom, a hard-working 35-year-old mother of two who lives in Phnom Penh city, where she makes a living selling cakes in front of a garment factory. Her husband contributes to the family’s income by driving a motorbike taxi. This is the time of year in Cambodia, the fish are in abundant supply and prices are especially low, so Uon is applying for this loan to buy a large amount of fish to turn into paste to sell to her customers.

434944Hanin is a young woman who is married with one child. She lives in Saffa Village south of Ramallah City. Hanin’s husband used to work in Israel in a pastry shop but three months ago they decided to start their own business since working in Israel depends on getting a work permit so it is not permanent work.

Hanin and her husband work together in making pastries, croissants, desserts, etc., and sell their products upon request within the village and to shops and restaurants in Ramallah.

Hanin has requested a loan to buy a bigger oven, a refrigrator, and working materials like flour.

Hanin and her husband are working from their house currently and they hope in the future to have their own pastry shop.
