Where’s my check?

With Mother’s day on the horizon, I thought it would be appropriate to take a look at what Moms are really worth.   Salary.com does a great job of highlighting the various duties of the typical mother and what those jobs are worth in real American dollars.

You have to figure that among the many roles that women play, the role of mother has more responsibilities than all others combined.   After all, Mom is the cook, housekeeper, taxi driver, babysitter, nurse, teacher, accountant, CEO, etc.   So if mom is holding down all of these jobs simultaneously, what is she really worth?  If you narrow the hours down to say a 90-hour work week, Salary.com guesses that Mom should be pulling in about $90,000 per year.   If overtime were paid on top of that, it would be an additional $25,000.    These numbers are for a stay-at-home mom, but I really think this applies to all moms.   Just because you have a day job doesn’t mean you are exempt from doing laundry, shuttling the kids and cooking dinner.   How well I know!

Here is a breakdown of Mom’s job title and the annual salary for that profession:

Job title

Annual salary

Child Day Care Worker

$20,259

Teacher

$44,824

Taxi Driver

$27,346

Facilities Manager

$73,239

Short-order Cook

$27,477

Laundry Attendant

$17,917

Janitor

$22,440

Counselor

$27,638

CEO

$545,268

Administrative Assistant III

$37,143

Accounting Clerk III

$34,842

Licensed Practical Nurse

$38,111

Plumber I

$33,155

Automotive Mechanic I

$30,725

Cake Decorator

$21,340

Hmmm…so I think I have handled all of the above except for maybe auto mechanic, unless you count detailing the car and filling it up with gas.   So dock me a couple grand for that one and send me the rest of my check!

On second thought, I don’t really need a check. I’ll take direct deposit please.   $-)

  • Yeah. He would. :P

But remember…you have the right to do what YOU want with YOUR money.

Just a friendly reminder from a believer in women’s equal rights. ;)

  • A

I wouldn’t ever get that chance to do that… My husband would have that money in the bank before I could even spend a dime! :-w

  • I can think of a few things I’d do with that kind of money. :))

I dunno…rather than a check or direct deposit, I’ll take it in hundreds and then I can throw it all on the floor and roll around in it.

    Just for fun.

    =))
