Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a moderate to severe speech problem, which is that I stutter. It’s a problem that affected many things in my life such as speaking in class, communicating with friends and family, and also affecting me as a musician on stage and how I’m able to communicate with the audience, before, during and after the show.
What is stuttering? Stuttering, also known as stammering, is a speech disorder in which the flow of speech is disrupted by involuntary repetitions and prolongations of sounds, syllables, words or phrases, as well as involuntary silent pauses or blocks in which the person who stutters is unable to produce sounds. So now you know.
I’ve had speech therapy for over 5 years and through hard work and the confidence that being a musician gives me, I have been able to overcome a lot of the problems. The first time that I performed in front of an audience, the songs that I sang were introduced by my brother.
My brother, Dante who is 13 years old, and I are a brother/sister band called VESSIO. We are both multi-instrumentalists and both play drums, guitar, conga, bongos, timbales, keyboard, and harmonica. We are both singer/songwriters in the rock/funk/blues tradition. Our goal as a band is to perform benefit concerts all over the world on a regular basis.
Our bands tag line/motto is “CHANGE THE WORLD”. We even wrote a song called, “Change The World”, which we hope is very inspiring since it tries to communicate that taking care of the needy is most important.

At our shows, we try to promote this theme by explaining to the audience what the plan is. That has been my biggest problem when speaking to the audience. I want them to take me seriously when I talk to them about changing the world and helping the needy. Sometimes I get stuck and my brother helps me out. Our hearts are in the right place. We don’t care about being rockstars unless we can make a difference in this world. We love it if you could support my band VESSIO “CHANGE THE WORLD”.
