Ask a woman. Best Margaret Thatcher Quotes

Margaret Thatcher passed away today at the age of 87. In 1973, she was quoted as saying “I don’t think there will be a woman prime minister in my lifetime.” In 1979, she proved herself and everyone else wrong when she became the first woman to become the British Prime Minister. Currently, she is the only woman to have held that position. Always a fighter, Margaret was nicknamed “The Iron Lady”. She left us with many memorable moments and eloquent speeches.

My favorite Margaret Thatcher quotes:

“Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope.”

“What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose.”

“Any woman who understands the problems of running a home will be nearer to understanding the problems of running a country.”

“To those waiting with bated breath for that favourite media catchphrase, the U-turn, I have only one thing to say: You turn if you want to. The lady’s not for turning.”

“They are casting their problems at society. And, you know, there’s no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look after themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then, also, to look after our neighbours.”

“You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.”

“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.”

  • I very much doubt that she would have wanted any part in this to be honest

I don’t think I’m making her into something she wasn’t. Her quotes are still valid and inspiring whether she supported feminism or not.

  • “I owe nothing to women’s lib.” “The feminists hate me, don’t they? And I don’t blame them. For I hate feminism. It is poison.” Please don’t make her into something she wasn’t.
