I've been playing for 20 years and I'm still learning new styles and new tricks. I find that short bursts work best for me. I'll try something new for say 10-15 minutes and then move on to something else for a while so I don't get frustrated. Then I will come back to the new thing for another 10-15 minutes. Usually it doesn't take long to get past the hard parts, but you have to practice consistently. ;) I agree with Caitlin – keep trying!
