This might be the craziest thing I’ve ever done…

craziest thingLast month I almost quit.

Since I started Girls Can’t WHAT? 2005, there have been a lot of sites pop up that have pretty much been copycats of what I’ve done. It’s flattering and all but I feel like all we’ve done is collectively saturate the market with cute stories, feminist news and lots of other fluff.

And I wanted out.

Until I realized that there is something missing. There is something that’s just not showing up in the frenzy of feminist web sites and social media channels. And it’s the one thing that can truly change a girl’s life.

It’s not a story. It’s not an inspirational quote. It’s not a video or a religion or a magic potion. It’s something they don’t teach you in school, but once you learn it you will realize that nothing is impossible and that you really can achieve anything you set your mind on doing.

So I’ve spent the last few weeks, retooling Girls Can’t WHAT? so I can bring you all of these tips that I’ve picked up over the years. I’ve used them to record an album with my band, build this web site from scratch, launch a career as a web developer, work with celebrities and so much more.

Many of these tips are the same techniques professional athletes and top performers use to overcome their fears, stay focused and keep improving. And they’re not teaching this stuff in school. Unbelievable!

Well I’m about to change all that. I’m about to tell you everything you need to know to be successful. Because you can be. You just need the right tools, the right systems and a solid foundation. And I know the way. I have the road map. And I’m about to share it with you. I’m putting the finishing touches on the first articles which will be released very soon. • I’m a huge people pleaser. It wasn’t until just recently when I actually discovered that I have a choice, and I can’t make everyone happy in every situation. I’m really glad I found that out because through the new challenges I face, they would’ve been 100 times harder if I was trying to please everyone. I now think about both what I want and if I can make other people happy without going too much out of my way. I can also say ‘no’ without feeling horrible! I always remember that my needs come first before others…not to be selfish!

  • You’ve been an inspiration to many of us, Gretchen. I’m glad you decided not tot quit. I know you can help inspire many more in the future, and I know you can help them become the person that they wanted to be. More power to you and your site, good luck with future endeavors. You go girl! Hooray to girl power!

Aww – thank you Marci. That means a lot. I am very excited at this new direction. Once I have the materials together, you can feel free to share them with as many girls as possible. That would be a huge help!

  • I am a female police officer and I have been following you for over two years. I love what you do to help empower young ladies and inspire them to do what ever they dream to do. I’m so glad you are not shutting down and if there is anything I can do to help you and your mission I would LOVE to assist in any way. Being a female officer for 20 years has taught me to empower & mentor young, new officers. Thank you for all that you do.
