It’s Not Miley’s Fault

Ok - I started something. I ranted a little to let off some steam and it turned into something huge. My post on the Miley Cyrus Hannah Montana ticket scalping has risen to the top of the Hot Topic stack in just a matter of days. The article has been getting hit like crazy from angry parents across the US who bought into the Miley world fan club in order to get pre-sale tickets to the tour only to be told the shows were sold out just minutes.  At this moment, the comments are about to top 100, so I just wanna add one little, tiny addendum to all this hoopla…

The Nerve of Some People

Posted by: gretchen on August 21, 2007 | 8 Comments |

This will be quite the rant by the time I am done, but I am absolutely amazed by the nerve of some people. As you may have read, I posted a few days ago on my experience with getting tickets to see Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana and how the tickets were sold out to scalpers before the public ever had a chance to buy them.

Imagine my surprise when I find a link in my statistics to this site, where they use MY post and QUOTE ME DIRECTLY, acting as if they sympathize with the outrageous prices I have discovered,. Then, IN THE SAME PARAGRAPH, they post a referral link to buy the tickets at a minimum of FIVE TIMES the price as if it is some kind of bargain. The entire blog is nothing but a scalper’s site, setup to make money off of selling tickets to see Hannah Montana at every location possible.

Naturally there is no option to contact anyone or post a comment. The hacker in me is sorely tempted to do something very mean and evil, but I shall refrain. At least for now…

Ticket Scalpers Should Be Shot

My daughters have had their heart set on seeing Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana in concert for several weeks now. Being a responsible parent, I made a note on my calendar and set an alarm so that I could get 4 tickets for our family to see the concert in St. Louis, MO on October 18th. Tickets went on sale at 10:00am this morning. I logged into my computer at 9:41am, pulled up the Ticketmaster web site and clicked on the Hannah Montana banner ad taking me straight to the ticket page where I was greeted with a message that tickets were not yet available for this event.

At precisely 10:00am, I refreshed the page and entered my order for 4 tickets. After a 5-minute wait, I was told none were available in that price range. I reset my options to see all available tickets and after about a 2-minute wait I was again told none were available. I tried several more times, even calling ticketmaster numbers in my area only to get a busy signal. I also tried other venues within a reasonable driving distance, but no dice. It was evident that Hannah Montana was sold out everywhere. So I did what any parent would do when their kids are desperate to see Miley Cyrus, I went to ebay.

What an eye-opener. Not only could I get the tickets, but I could pay 10 TIMES the amount for them. Nosebleed seats were going for $250.00 a piece. A spot on the floor in the second row would cost me $1500.00 for ONE ticket. Unbelievable. Needless to say, at those outrageous prices, my kids will not be seeing Miley on this tour and I am ticked! My family didn’t even have a chance to get the tickets at the NORMAL price before scalpers swept in and bought them all in order to line their pockets. Would any of you scalpers care to spare a dollar so I can use it to wipe up my kids’ tears? x(

Not to mention the tears of thousands of other little girls whose parents can’t afford to pay those prices either. Ticket scalpers should be shot!

Will Miley Cyrus hang on to the Best of Both Worlds?

Miley Cyrus PhotoOk - I gotta give some big props to Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana) based on what I have seen lately. My girls have been huge Hannah Montana fans ever since the series began airing on Saturday mornings on one of our local stations so I have become well-acquainted with her show and the messages behind each episode over the last several months. I have to say that I have been rather impressed with the quality and wholesomeness of the show and I am particularly excited that the kids show respect to their parents, a trait that seems lost in Hollywood these days.

We’re seeing and hearing a lot of Miley this summer. For starters, we purchased the Hannah Montana 2-Disc special edition soundtrack for my kids to listen to on our vacation. The girls brought a CD player and headphones with them, but eventually the CD made it’s way into our van’s stereo system and before long the entire family knew the words to “Best of Both Worlds” and “Nobody’s Perfect”. In fact, I liked the CD so much that I added it to one of my iTunes playlists. The included DVD was also a huge hit and I think my girls have memorized every word on it. And now that we have subscribed to cable tv for the first time ever in our lives, we are learning a lot more about Miley than we ever thought possible. So far I like what I see. :)

About a week ago, I happened to catch an interview with Miley on one of the late night talk shows (Letterman? Leno? I forget - sorry!). She did a wonderful job at answering questions and sharing stories. She has a very likable personality and her confession of staying close to her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, in order to stay grounded was refreshing. In the wake of Hollywood stars who had real positive potential but then end up strung out and messed up (Lindsay Lohan, Brittany Spears, etc.), Miley is a welcome role model that I am comfortable supporting. I hope for my kids’ sake and for all the young girls who look up to Miley, that she can rise above the Hollywood riff-raff and remain one of the few positive role models in the entertainment industry.

If you are not familiar with Miley or her music, here is a live video performance of one of my favorite Hannah Montana songs called “Who Said.” The lyrics (posted below) are fabulous and fit the theme of my site so well. Major kudos to Miley…rock on, girl! b-)
