Sarah is the Starting Guard on Her Football Team

Submitted By: Sarah | Age: 13

I came home in the spring and told my parents that I wanted to play football. They looked at me as if I was nuts.

The first day of school I called home and told my mom that I was staying after. The boys looked at me with a very strange expression. It was the first day of school, I had just had my hair hi-lighted and had painted my nails a great shade of teal.

The only thing the boys said was aren’t you afraid that you’ll break a nail? I slipped during tryouts, “Aren’t you going to cry?” They said.

The jokes on them! I’m now a starting guard on my ms football team. The only girl at any level. In my world, girls can!

Sarah – I love stories like yours. You not only made the team but you worked yourself into a starting position. It sounds like you at least have supportive coaches. Let us know how the season goes. :)

you motivate me! im 14 and love putting on eyeliner and doing my nails but i also love football. Since my ms doesn’t have a football team i am going to play football in my hs next year! Even though my parent are against it is girls like you that remind me its possible, GIRLS CAN DO ANYTHING!!!
