No Wonder Our Perception Of Beauty is Distorted

My sister insisted I post the new Dove Commercial that shows the evolution of a “Supermodel”. In light of the recent Hooters and Trophy Wife threads, it’s fabulous to take such an eye-opening look at how “beauty” is created. This is an absolutely amazing video that every girl must see.

Okay, I’m not easily shocked, but I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped on this one!! I watched it a few times already and I am just in utter disbelief.

You know, I was at the store today and as I was standing in the checkout line, staring at all those magazines, I couldn’t help but think about this commercial. I already knew that every one of those covers was air-brushed and photo-shopped, but this time I was like “who cares?” I actually just thought “eh, that’s not really who they are” and I started thinking no wonder celebrities have a hard time with their self-image. They see themselves on those covers and then they look in the mirror and it’s not the same person. #-o

  8. 7 Revolutionary Ways Women Can Go Green February 5th, 2010 10:37 pm

[...] Now I’m going to suggest you read naked.  No, not literally, but one way we women can go green is to reduce the amount of beauty products we use.  How far you take that is at your own discretion, but I personally have eliminated some hair and make-up products altogether and most days I don’t use anything at all.  I realize this doesn’t work for everyone, but try it a couple days a week. Put your hair up instead of styling it with gel or skip the makeup and enjoy the benefits of sunlight on your skin (don’t burn yourself!).  Every little action counts so join in when you can.  It also sets a good example for our daughters and helps remind us that our perception of beauty is often distorted.
