Girls Can’t Put The Shot

It’s track and field season in the sports world, so after a recent request for a shot put design, I decided to work up some new athletic characters for the famous Olympic-inspired competitions.

Girls Can't WHAT Shot Put Design

In case anyone is wondering, the women aren’t very far behind in record-holding for the shot put. According to wikipedia, the current world records are held by

TypeAthleteDistanceVenueDate
Men
OutdoorRandy Barnes[1]23.12 m (75 ft 10.2 in)Westwood, California, USA20 May 1990
IndoorRandy Barnes22.66 m (74 ft 4.1 in)Los Angeles, California, USA20 January 1989

IndoorHelena Fibingerová22.50 m (73 ft 9.8 in)Jablonec, TCHFebruary 19, 1977

I’d say it’s just a matter of time before a woman beats one of the men’s records. Wouldn’t that be sweet?

Well, to be fair, guy’s shot = 12 pounds; girl’s shot = 8.8 pounds, so you really can’t compare the two, especially when it comes to records, unless you’re both throwing the same shot.

Looking at these records though I have no idea how the hell someone can throw 75 ft. That’s completely insane! I was the happiest kid alive when I threw 40 ft for the first time and the best thrower in the state can throw ~52 ft. Anyone who can throw 75 ft, male or female, has my respect.

I am all for female empowerment, but I did want to correct an inaccuracy here. Olympic male shot puts weigh 16 lbs, and female’s 8.8 lbs. I greatly respect female shot putters and have trained many for years. Both males and females that perform at these levels deserve our respect for their dedication.

Well i am only 12 but ive been 1st and second place for shot put all season. For CVL’s i was first over with 23’7.I have great respect for both genders in shot put. When im old enough i am going to be an Olympic champ. Its a far off dream but i will succed. And not only with i beat the record i will beat the guys record with a 16 pound shot.I can only throw about 20 ft with a 12 pound shot but when i get there i will be throwing over 70 with a 16. I respect male and female shot putters and i think their the most awesome people on earth and i look up to all of them.

girls could throw as far as guys if they would let us.

I really don’t want to start a flame war or anything here, but that makes absolutely no sense, Amanda. Don’t blame genetics on other people. There’s no person stopping you fron going out and throwing farther than guys. If you REALLY want to go out and beat the guys’ record with a guys’ shot, than good luck, but don’t blame your physical limits on others.

I’m insulted. I’m #1 girls shot on my team, and my teammates, and other coaches around the school respect me for that. My PR currently is 27 ft, that I threw with a 6 pound ball on 4/28/09 I think.
