One is Greater than None
My sister caught this info on Martha Stewart today…. “One is greater than None” is an organization started by eight 14-year-old girls who wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. They have recently launched their own line of clothing and are using the proceeds to help kids in other countries. It’s a pretty impressive undertaking and it’s really catching on. Check them out at oneisgreaterthannone.org.

Say Hi To LornaJane!
Just wanted to give a shout out to my online pal LornaJane in the UK. Lorna is a php geek and has been very gracious in answering my nerdy php questions from time to time. She has a fantastic blog site at LornaJane.net. Notice the lovely angel logo in the corner of the header. Yup - that’s my artwork.
Drop by and say hi to Lorna…tell her Girls Can’t WHAT? sent ya. ![]()
Strong Women Supporting Strong Girls
My name is Lindsay Hyde; I’m the Executive Director of Strong Women, Strong Girls (www.swsg.org), a not-for-profit organization that fosters high aspirations among at-risk girls in grades 3-5 and helps them to develop the skills they need to succeed! I wanted to share a note with this blog community because Strong Women, Strong Girls has taken on a challenge and we could really use your help!
Hanes and SixDegrees.org have offered up a challenge. They are giving a $10,000 matching grants to the six organizations nationwide that have the highest number of individual donations through their “Charity Badges” program. (To learn more about the Charity Badges program visit www.sixdegrees.org).
We know we can win the challenge–but we need your help! We are working to rally 500 individuals to contribute $10.00 each to help us win!
I know that the folks who read Girls Can’t WHAT know how important the work of Strong Women, Strong Girls is for girls. I want to ask this group to join us in taking on this challenge and helping us to win $10,000 to support the more than 400 girls who benefit from SWSG programming each year.
To help us win, please visit our Charity Badge at: http://www.networkforgood.org/pca/Badge.aspx?BadgeId=106524
We only have until September 16th!
If you have any questions, please e-mail me at lhyde@swsg.org .
Thank you!
Girls in Government
While doing some research recently, I came across a site called Girls in Government, which encourages girls to take leadership roles and participate in political movements. The site has a great look and feel to it and features both high-profile women as well as young girls who are bringing about positive changes in their communities through leadership. This is a great resource for anyone interested in this field.

Cool Web Site: LadyStar
I had a really cool site recommended to me last week: LadyStar is the epic story of seven girls who discover the mighty artifacts of a betrayed kingdom and its fearsome legends of an avenging champion. I should mention here that these very smart, capable girls who use their brain power and talents to battle evil. The site is updated many times each week with free chapters from the Ajan Warriors Series, plus games, contests and all sorts of fun special events.
Being a mom to two girls who LOVE to read and play on the computer, I have spent considerable time visting LadyStar and checking it out. The storylines are highly engaging and the illustrations are just beautiful. The artwork alone is worth a peek. Love it! At this time, two books have been written and a third is currently in development. Fans of LadyStar can also find favorite characters on the LadyStar apparel and gift items in their online shop. I have added this site to the “mommy approved” bookmarks on my girls’ computer.
