Superchick: Rock What You Got
One of my favorite bands released a new album this week. Rock What You Got by Superchick has been a long time coming, but it’s finally here! If you’re not familiar with Superchick, you really should check them out. With hits like Anthem, One Girl Revolution, Me Against the World, Hero, We Live and Beauty from Pain, Superchick has made a big impact in the music world. Their songs are upbeat and very positive with a unique sound that blends techno, pop with R&B and other styles for a very unique sound.
I’ve had Rock What You Got blazing through my iTunes for a couple of days now and it is phenomenal. I love it when bands reinvent themselves and aren’t afraid to try new things. Superchick excels at creating new sounds and catchy lyrics. The best song on the album, in my opinion, is track #7 “So Beautiful”. The song is another fantastic anthem for girls. My own daughters caught onto it right away and they’ve been playing it in their rooms before bedtime. Here is a preview of “So Beautiful” (lyrics listed at the bottom of this post):
It’s Here! It’s Here!
My all-girl band, Amplified, has released a 4-track CD! After a year of sweat, blood and tears (or more like a lot of driving, staring at our overly-packed schedules, several pounds of coffee and gallons of green tea, a lot of very looong nights and Triscuits with cream cheese thrown in for good measure) we managed to assemble all five of us in the studio long enough to record 4 of our best songs.
The CD is simply called Amplified and features Kelli Kopetz, Leslie Swafford and Katrina Fisher on vocals, Lindsay Strohkirch on Keyboards and Gretchen Cawthon (that’s me) on Drums. Our producer, Kevin Turner at Marina Park Music added bass and guitar to the tracks and Kelli also played flute on “Evidence of Grace”.

Mentoring Opportunity for Female Musicians
Jazz saxophonist Sarah Manning has a mentoring opportunity available for female musicians in the NYC area through a program called Shatter the Glass. She will be playing at the Jazz Gallery in NYC on April 24th, and is giving away one ticket to the show and admission to the private sound check for her band. The giveaway is open to female instrumentalists, whether or not they play jazz, as long as they have an interest in it. It’s a chance to meet the band, see what happens before the show as well as attend the performance. For more information, visit http://www.shattertheglass.org and click on “Advocacy”. Deadline to enter is Friday, April 18th
Stand Back Up
One of my all-time favorite motivational songs is by a country band called Sugarland. The song is called “Stand Back Up” and I really wish they would release a real video for it. The song is just amazing and no one can do it quite like they can. I found a couple youtube clips of it, but they really don’t do it justice. Give it a listen and tell me what you think. Lyrics are posted below.
