The release of the Girls Can’t WHAT? Trucker design attracted female trucker Pamela Febbo to the site and I couldn’t resist requesting an interview with her. I mean how often do you see women truckers, let alone meet one? Pamela was kind enough to indulge my questions. Read more

Meet Football Coach Stormy Stroud
For those who think football is for boys only, I invite you to check out the Modesto Magic Women’s Football Team in Modesto, California, a group made up entirely of women who love to play football. The team was founded by and still coached by Stormy Stroud who herself has had an impressive career with pigskin in hand. Recently, Stormy contacted me to say how much she enjoyed the Girls Can’t WHAT? site and that her players could identify with the many stories shared on here. A few emails turned into an interview…so here is Stormy, highlighting her pitfalls in the world of football and how she came to start the Modesto Magic women’s team.
Danica McKellar is a True Role Model
Two thumbs way up for Danica McKellar who told Newsweek
“When girls see the antics of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, they think that being fun and glamorous also means being dumb and irresponsible. But I want to show them that being smart is cool.
Ladies Rock Out WinterJam
Last Thursday, my family and I attended the WinterJam concert in our area. What a powerhouse of a tour and the best part of the show were the women rockers! The highlights (for me) were seeing Mandisa, BarlowGirl and Skillet and I’ve been chomping at the bit to get this review out of my head and onto the web, so here goes…
Meet Detective Heather Reyda
Meet Heather Reyda, a mother of four (two boys and two girls) who lives life to the fullest. Heather loves photography, reading, music, and sports. She also enjoys watching her daughters play the piano and sing, and to her sons playing soccer.
Oh - and did I mention this? Heather is also a Detective for the Major Crimes Division in Knoxville, TN. She was gracious enough to let Girls Can’t WHAT? interview her about the challenges she faced as a female in her law enforcement career.
In Memory of Benazir
It is a sad week in women’s history. Yesterday, Benazir Bhutto, a well-respected Pakistani politician and the first woman elected to lead a Muslim state, was assassinated by a suicide bomber as she waved to supporters at a political rally. During her career, Benazir endured false accusations and previous assassination attempts, always bouncing back with a strong spirit and determination to bring democracy to her nation. Read more
Girls Can’t Take a Bullet
Dang. Major hero worship to this 7 year old girl who jumped in front of a gunman to shield her mother from a spray of deadly bullets. I’ve featured and interviewed a lot of brave women on Girls Can’t WHAT?™, but Alexis Goggins takes the cake. No fear. I want to meet this girl! I think she has inspired a new super hero design. Wow!
For those of you holding your breath on the outcome of this story and afraid to click the link to read the full story, Alexis is currently in stable condition with 6 gunshot wounds to her head and torso. She is recovering well, although she has a long way to go… Read more
Goddess Spotlight
A few months ago I had the tables turned on me. I am usually the one doing the interviewing, but the Paisley Goddess invited me to answer some questions about how I started this site and what kinds of things inspire me. There’s also a shocking confession on who really came up with the name for Girls Can’t WHAT? Check out my interview and say hello to the Paisley Goddess for me. ![]()
Barbara Walters Interview on TV Land
Recieved an email from Orli Sharaby, 360i on behalf of TV Land, mentioning an interview with Barbara Walters which will be airing tomorrow evening:
As a champion of feminist issues and as a blog with many younger readers, I thought I would share with you this short video about Barbara Walters, a woman who has been breaking barriers in media for nearly half a century. Now, she’s been named as one of TV Land and Entertainment Weekly’s 50 greatest TV icons of all time. The video comes from TV Land, and it’s a brief snippet about Barbara Walters’ impact on our cultural landscape.
“The 50 Greatest TV Icons” is a 2-hour TV Land special that airs on Friday, Nov. 16 at 8pm ET/PT, but a couple of celebrity interviews have been made available now, exclusively for bloggers. One of them features newscaster Cynthia McFadden discussing Barbara Walters, as I mentioned above.
I watched the clip and the interview proves to be very interesting. I’m making a note on my calendar to watch it. ![]()
One is Greater than None
My sister caught this info on Martha Stewart today…. “One is greater than None” is an organization started by eight 14-year-old girls who wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. They have recently launched their own line of clothing and are using the proceeds to help kids in other countries. It’s a pretty impressive undertaking and it’s really catching on. Check them out at oneisgreaterthannone.org.
