Danica is the First Woman to Win an Indy Race

Posted by: gretchen on April 21, 2008 | 2 Comments |

I can’t tell you how many people either called or emailed me today to let me know that Danica Patrick won the Indy Race yesterday in Japan. Woo hoo! Lots of Danica fans here. :D Not only do I know that from the emails and phone calls, but the Girls Can’t WHAT? race car driver design has been selling quite a bit here lately.

Danica won by 5.8594, seconds ahead of Helio Castroneves on the 1.5-mile Twin Ring Motegi oval track after leader Scott Dixon pitted with five laps left and Dan Wheldon and Tony Kanaan came in a lap later.

“It’s a long time coming. Finally,” Patrick said. “It was a fuel strategy race, but my team called it perfectly for me. I knew I was on the same strategy as Helio and when I passed him for the lead, I couldn’t believe it. This is fabulous.”

Congrats Danica - You earned it!

Barbara Walters Interview on TV Land

Posted by: gretchen on November 15, 2007 | Leave a Comment |

Recieved an email from Orli Sharaby, 360i on behalf of TV Land, mentioning an interview with Barbara Walters which will be airing tomorrow evening:

As a champion of feminist issues and as a blog with many younger readers, I thought I would share with you this short video about Barbara Walters, a woman who has been breaking barriers in media for nearly half a century. Now, she’s been named as one of TV Land and Entertainment Weekly’s 50 greatest TV icons of all time. The video comes from TV Land, and it’s a brief snippet about Barbara Walters’ impact on our cultural landscape.

“The 50 Greatest TV Icons” is a 2-hour TV Land special that airs on Friday, Nov. 16 at 8pm ET/PT, but a couple of celebrity interviews have been made available now, exclusively for bloggers. One of them features newscaster Cynthia McFadden discussing Barbara Walters, as I mentioned above.

Click here to watch the video.

I watched the clip and the interview proves to be very interesting. I’m making a note on my calendar to watch it. :D

They have recently launched their own line of clothing and are using the proceeds to help kids in other countries. It’s a pretty impressive undertaking and it’s really catching on. It’s Hard to Sit Still

Posted by: gretchen on October 24, 2007 | 6 Comments |

Annie OakleyHave you ever tried to sit completely still? Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Just grab the remote and veg out in front of the tv. Haven’t we all done that at one time or another? Nothing wrong with that. We all need a break now and then.

Now flip to the the end of the spectrum…ever had moments where you can’t sit still? Happens to me all the time. I can’t just sit and not do anything. It’s hard! Even if my physical body isn’t moving, my mind is going 90 miles an hour and I’m probably thinking about all the things I could be doing if I weren’t just sitting there. The worst case scenario for me is to be stuck someplace where I have to just sit and be attentive - ugh! If I am not interested or I can’t participate, at least grant me permission to get lost in my own thoughts. That is an adventure in itself.  ;)

Today’s chance words of wisdom come from Annie Oakley, who claims:

“For me, sitting still is harder than any kind of work.”

Oh, Annie - I can so relate! I would much rather have my nose to the grindstone and feel that I am moving forward with my goals, than to be stuck in an unproductive situation.  While it may sound like I’m on the fast track to workaholics anonymous, let me explain a little trend that I’ve noticed.  Read more

Jennifer Garner Gets It

Posted by: gretchen on September 25, 2007 | 1 Comment |

It’s always nice to see Hollywood stars who seem to have a firm grip on reality. Kelli sent me this interesting article about Jennifer Garner and her experiences with motherhood.  I especially like her comments on fitting into a dress after giving birth:

“I usually feel like, `No matter how many girdles you put me in, you will not be able to zip this.’ They always say to you — as though it’s something that should make you happy — `This is fresh from the runway.’

“But what I think is, `That was made for some 14-year-old girl from Russia! It was not made to go on my body.’”

Yeah, that’s my band!

Posted by: gretchen on September 24, 2007 | 1 Comment |

Amplified417 LogoI’ve been asked to post music from my band when it’s available.  We are almost finished with our demo album, so we’ve posted a couple of tracks on our myspace.  They need a few minor tweaks still, but these two tracks are mostly done.  Feedback is much appreciated.  :)

Bull Riders. Men or Women

Posted by: meena_michelle on September 18, 2007 | 30 Comments |

When you think of bull riding you think of strong, athletic men. Well men aren’t just the only ones that bull ride. I know a few girl bull riders. Being a BULL RIDER you have to be strong. When my parents told me when I get on a bull it’ll put a new meaning cowboy/girl in my vocabulary. It’s true. But you have to have a strong heart also, most of the bull riders think that guys are the only ones that can. but thats not true at all. I am better than some of the guys and that apparently doesn’t look good for some of the guys because they don’t want to be known as the guy who got beat by a girl at bull riding! I love it, it is soooo much fun!
