Blue is a Boy Color
My oldest daughter is turning 9 next month so my husband and I took her shopping to find all the cool stuff she needs for her birthday party. Katelynn picked out a big yellow smilie face balloon with rainbows and flowers along with some treat bags and a few other items.
We then went over a few aisles to look for cups, plates, napkins, etc. My artistic child instantly became obsessed with finding the “right” color to match the balloon bouquet. After about 10 minutes up and down the aisle, she picked up a set of blue plates that matched the background of the smilie face balloon.
As I proceeded to grab the corresponding cups and napkins, my husband says “uh…are you sure you want blue, Katie?” She says “yeah.” And he replies “Blue is a boy color.” At that point I shook my head and disowned him right there in the store. Katie, who is swayed easily by our opinions, put the plates down and then spent another 10 minutes looking at the options. I tried to convince her that the blue ones were a good choice, but we went home with yellow plates instead.
And I thought I had trained my husband better than that. Next time he will stay home.
