Here is another Click to Empower opportunity to help women in need. This program encourages people to donate nearly new purses or professional bags to Dress for Success to help domestic violence survivors, or other women in need, get back on their feet with confidence. Purse donations will be accepted at select Allstate agency locations across the nation.
To help kick start this, ABC’s Ugly Betty actress, Ana Ortiz, will donate her Onna Ehrlich purse to one lucky winner for telling gal pals about domestic violence. To enter the contest, visit http://www.clicktoempower.com/gal-pal-entry-form.aspx. For each person that you encourage to enter the contest, you’ll get an extra entry – increasing your chances of winning the purse! The contest runs until Friday October 31 so the clock is counting down.
The Martial Arts design has been a hot seller for the past two years and recently someone requested a variation of it to reflect a Kung Fu uniform. I am not well versed in any of the self-defenses although I have always thought it would be fun to learn a martial art. I really should take some classes…
If you are participating in any self-defense classes or martial arts competitions, we’d love to hear from you. Share your stories in the comments below.
The modified Kung Fu design is now available in the Girls Can’t WHAT? shop.

I must confess I intended to write this review several months ago. In fact, every week this summer I thought about writing this review. There was only one problem. Every time I sat down at my desk to write, the book was gone. I kept hunting it down….first I found it under my daughter’s bed, then on her nightstand, twice in the van, in the family room, on her dresser…you get the picture. If it wasn’t my oldest daughter running off with it, it was my youngest. They both loved the book so much that neither of them could put it down. Good thing I had both the large book and the pocket version or else we may have have ended up in a war zone over its possession.
The Daring Book for Girls arrived on my doorstep from the publisher back in June, I believe. I was so impressed by the design and artwork that I immediately packed them into my computer bag so I could show a couple of other graphic artist friends. It’s one of those books that you take one look at and you know it’s going to be good.

Three years ago, on September 27th, 2005, I published my first post to Girls Can’t WHAT? At the time, I had a pretty crappy website, a couple of designs in my shop and I really had no clue what I was doing. I had no money to spend on advertising or training and I was lucky if I even made $10/week. I had no formal education in computers and no experience whatsoever in graphic design or web development. Nada. That is not an exaggeration. I started this business with nothing. Today, I am still working my tail off, loving every minute of it and I’m making more money than I thought possible. A few weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to share my success story in a spontaneous one-on-one conversation. In celebration of the 3-year anniversary of Girls Can’t WHAT? I’d like to share it with you. Read more
While browsing through some older posts on here, I came across the “Where’s My Check?” post and it reminded me of a memo that I pasted into my palm several years ago. I think we moms underplay the CEO role way too often when in reality it is the most effective thing we can do to keep our sanity throughout the week. This reads kind of like a household mission statement. I think I modified it from the original, but you get the point. Read more
