Meet Drummer Samantha Landa
Meet Samantha Landa, a 21-year old heavy hitter from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada who loves nothing more than to play the drums. Samantha graciously completed an interview with Girls Can’t WHAT? where she explains how she got started as a drummer and offers tips to help young percussionists stick with their musical dreams.
Meet Cristina Lara
Meet 15-year-old political activist Cristina Lara from Fair Lawn New Jersey. A high school sophmore, this girl is not waiting for graduation to make a difference in her world. In 2007, she founded a a female empowerment youth organization called the Society of Young Leading Women. The society is for “the elite young women who believe that this common double standard of society must be aligned correctly.” Girls Can’t WHAT? recently caught up with Cristina for more information on her organization as well as her inspiring story as a varsity football player for her high school team.
Danica is the First Woman to Win an Indy Race
I can’t tell you how many people either called or emailed me today to let me know that Danica Patrick won the Indy Race yesterday in Japan. Woo hoo! Lots of Danica fans here.
Not only do I know that from the emails and phone calls, but the Girls Can’t WHAT? race car driver design has been selling quite a bit here lately.
Danica won by 5.8594, seconds ahead of Helio Castroneves on the 1.5-mile Twin Ring Motegi oval track after leader Scott Dixon pitted with five laps left and Dan Wheldon and Tony Kanaan came in a lap later.
“It’s a long time coming. Finally,” Patrick said. “It was a fuel strategy race, but my team called it perfectly for me. I knew I was on the same strategy as Helio and when I passed him for the lead, I couldn’t believe it. This is fabulous.”
Congrats Danica - You earned it!

Girls Can’t Play Trumpet
Musicians have been hot sellers at Girls Can’t WHAT? and my request list for musical instruments is ridiculously long. That tells me that girls are rocking the world from all genres with all kinds of sounds!
I’ve been quietly working to fill that gap by adding more Girls Can’t WHAT? instrumentalists to the shop. The latest is a trumpet player. Once again, I am drawing a blank on famous female trumpet players. If you can point me to a few, I would greatly appreciate it. YouTube videos would be even better since it would nice to be able to hear them as well. ![]()
You can find this design on an assortment of cool t-shirts and gift items in the Girls Can’t WHAT? shop. Here’s a sampling of items in both the light and dark skin tones. Read more

Girls Can’t WHAT? has been Officially Trademarked
Just a little announcement to let everyone know that the phrase Girls Can’t WHAT? has been officially trademarked. After a long and tedious process (and a load of cash), I received written notice and a certificate noting that my trademark application has been approved and “Girls Can’t WHAT?” is now officially registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. If you’re not sure what all the hoopla is about, it means I can now put the registered symbol (little R with a circle around it) after the name Girls Can’t WHAT?® and that phrase cannot be used on products or media, etc. without my express permission. ![]()
Weekly Challenge: Do you have a “Compliments” File?
Have you ever received a card or an email that contained a compliment or inspirational statement that just made your day? I get one every once in a while and they never cease to amaze me. Sometimes the message shows up right when I really needed it and other times it is random such as the one I received this morning via email:
I found this site through a reference on the Joomla.org site. I love it. This is exactly the sort of resource I want my daughter to have, when she’s old enough–she’s only 2 now.
Keep up the good work.
Now, I’m having a pretty good day so far (ok so it’s only 8am)…but I know somewhere in the future I’m gonna have a run of bad luck and that lovely little email will be just the thing I need to pick myself up of the floor and move on.
How will I find my way back to reading it when I’m having a crappy day and I need a little motivation to keep going? The trick to making these compliments work for you when you really truly need them is simple. Read more
