10 Years before Schedule: My Journey in Growing Big Fast

dancerrebeccahulseSometimes I feel like I’m a real deal fairytale princess, then other days I remember how dedicated I was and how much sweat went into my dream.

I was always a dreamer, a seeker of a different world. I was one of those oddballs that was willing to see what else was out there – and then actually go for it.

I was a typical girl wishing upon a star for a dream come true.
My list was nicely OCD organized into 1, 2, 3:

1. Find and be with the love of my life
2. Be a professional dancer
3. Have my own business and contribute to the world in an inspiring way

And I thought “Yup this is pretty big, ETA just before 30! Perfect.”
Not so…

I started dance when I was 4 and quite honestly was pretty terrible (my mum backs me on this one) until I got really serious.

At age 11 I decided I wanted to be the FIRST New Zealander in the (Russian) Bolshoi Ballet….

And I actually went for it – I got mum to sign me up to do competitions and I worked really hard, I was homeschooled so I started doing part time dance at age 15 and joined a full time ballet bootcamp when I was 17.

I was on a mission.

During this time I also met this super sweet guy, he turned out to be my best friend, business partner and lover for four amazing years.

Lets skip forward a few years – 2012

I was in Commercial Dance School, living with love of my life and this whacko course came up in almost every email I read.

It was called Rich, Hot and Happy B-School – B standing for Business.
It lit up my soul but I held myself back thinking – I don’t want a business yet, I’m being a dancer right now, that part is for later remember?

I was so scared that if I chose this I would get exactly what I wanted – A full 10 years ahead of schedule I might add!

And so in typical fairytale drama queen fashion I ummed and ahhed and eventually at 2 am at the cutoff time I chose the course, I only had enough money for the first payment at the time but I knew I could make it work.

At the same time I was also working my butt off at the dance studio to create audition material. Love of my life and I had decided we wanted to work on cruise ships and we wanted to be booked and ready to go before we graduated.

Turns out we were such excellent workers that we didn’t even graduate. We got our first dance job – together (a virtually impossible feat) and left in October.

I still ran my online business I had created from B-School, I was traveling the world with the love of my life and I was dancing.

A real dream come true.

But the cool thing was this didn’t just happen.
We chose it
We created it
And we did whatever it took.

Choosing big targets like mine doesn’t take someone special, lots of money or a university degree. What I realized from surprising myself so much is that I had a lot more to me than any impossible dream I could imagine.

When you choose big targets most people think your trying to scale a flat wall as tall as Everest.

Really when you choose big targets like mine – your asking yourself to grow as big as the wall so you can step right over it.

Sure there’s sweat and fights and times when your computer almost blew up because of how frustrated you were. There were also laughter and shining moments and incredible amounts of gratitude to every single person in this growth spurt – the people that said I could and especially to those who said I couldn’t.

The journey was important but the vision and the ability to change it even more so.
I’m now 10 years ahead of schedule with a totally clean slate.

When you get your dreams and you’re that big – you can shrink down and forget it ever happened and that you were ever smaller than what you are now.

Or you can acknowledge how big you are and can ask to be even bigger.

To more growth spurts
